Dean C. Swift
About the author...
Just about everyone has some mountain they're going to climb some day, some big project they're going to finish,
some book they're going to get published. If you're one of those people, then this is the book for you, one that will
say to you, "Just do it - whatever you have your sights set upon!" Dean Swift wanted to cross the Atlantic Ocean.
It's wide, it can be dangerous, so he needed a capable boat, the skills and the determination to cross it. Swift built
a boat in his backyard. He gardually acquired the necessary seamanship skills and eventually made the crossing.
This book is yet another challenge Swift successfully overcame. Just as he had to build his own boat, he also decided
to self-publish this book, including the actual printing and marketing of it. May reading it inspire you to set your
sails to achieve that greatest goal in your life.

'So You Want to Build a Boat' - This is part one
of 'My Island in the Sun', revised and rewritten. The Story...
A tale of determination as Dean builds his 25ft gaff sloop Lucky Linda, then begins his journey to
visit the furthest corners of the globe in his quest to find his own elusive "Island in the Sun".
Hardcover & Ebook version -
From her beginnings in the backyard, with all of the hassles from government and remarks from doubtful neighbours; to
her trials on Canada's East coast, where she faced fog thicker than pea soup, whirlpools large enough to swallow her whole,
and overfalls steep enough to bury her bows and wash her decks. Her length on deck of 25ft seemed big enough during
her construction, but a tad shy when on the open ocean. Share the times of concern, the times of humour, the disappointments
and finally the exhilaration of a dream realised. Written as it happened and told in a captivating nautical parlance.

'Driven' - This is part two of 'My Island in the Sun', revised
and rewritten. More than a casual sail, Dean learns some real lessons of offshore cruising when he
and a mate take Lucky Linda on a sometimes harrowing passage from the Bay of Fundy to the Azores.
Hardcover
And for the long distance cruiser. People change when living together
in close quarters for extended periods of time - with no rational means of escape. Again, be prepared. Dean's accounts will
help you to know what to look for in those who accompany you and know what changes to expect in others and yourself.

'83 Days to Weather' - A short passage on the North Atlantic,
one that should not have taken more than a week or so. Fraught with delays prior to departure and fighting not
to be a fatal statistic before it's completion, Lucky Linda and her crew struggle to survive.
Hardcover & Ebook version -
The boat needed work. Some of it structural, some of it cosmetic, some of it on systems.
Time and weather worked against the probability of having a seaworthy craft before departure date. Even so, Lucky
Linda sailed shipshape and on schedule, only to face horrific conditions at sea. Key equipment failures
joined forces with the stormy seas to force the boat and her crew to earn every mile they could make. Overdue to
her destination, Coast Guard search and rescue efforts were initiated, fearing the loss of this little cruiser on these storm
ravaged waters.

According to the Canadian Celiac Association 1 person in every 2,000 is diagnosed as having Celiac Disease. This
does not include people who have not been diagnosed but are suffering from symptoms. No statistics are available but it is
estimated that approximately 5 million Canadians are lactose intolerant. A person suffering from Celiac Disease cannot
handle gluten, which is a protein often found in commercially manufactured products. The list below is quite extensive
and I urge anyone who suspects they have this intolerance, or has it confirmed, to get in touch with their doctor and/or nutritionist.

'When Life Becomes Real' -
Eleven years of Lorna Foreman's Fifty-Five Plus columns compiled for your enjoyment.
I turned 55 around the time of the advertisements for "Freedom 55" hit the world. Oh yes, I had fantastic ideas
of how my life would be once I made that big transition. Added to that, I started writing for "Fifty-Five Plus" magazinewhich
seemed so appropriate. So I started writing my column "The Rest is Best" full of optimism, zest and determination to
fulfill all that I wrote about. This book contains most of the columns, and I have attemted to do them in sequence,
although some of them got a bit mixed up, but because they are what I call 'generic' it really doesn't matter. I hope
you enjoy them.

'Coffey's Best Beer Companion Cookbook'
I have been writing and editing this coobook since 1991. That was the first time that I was downsized, rightsized
or reengineered out of a food company and I was desperately looking for something to do that incorporated the things that
I was interested in. At that time it meant food and beer. Since that time I have added another 19 years of sastisfying
my appetite for both and I have managed to become an ex-employee of 11 other food companies. My passion for the consumption
of the amber beverage and accompanying food has not diminished but my capacity is a fraction of what it used to be.
I will continue to search for and create new recipes but my focus will be on quality, not quantity.

'Mental Illness: Fact or Fiction' - real stories, real

It was Saturday and I was in an extreme state of depression. The pain was excruciating and I decided to commit
suicide, to end it all on Tuesday. I had long ago devised the plan, but picking the date was the final decision.
What happened in the next few minutes changed my life forever. As soon as I had decided to end my life, I experienced
an overwhelming sense of relief. My worries were gone and I actually felt happy. As Tuesday drew nearer, I found
myself wondering why my depression had lifted so quickly. To go from a depression so deep that the only escape seemed
to be death, to a state of peace within moments, did not support the biological theory I so often heard. Tuesday came
and went. Depression visited me several times over thje folllowing months, but it was a gift, because now it gave me
insight as to what was causing me to experience this darkness.

Inspiration

What is “A Beginning, An Ending”? It is an inspirational true story about my life,
my struggles and my
will to live my dreams.
I cannot begin
to tell you how this
book has changed my
life; starting as a
journal, it became my
window of living life
openly and reaching into
my lost soul.
I had
always been creative, artistic, a great singer, but never aspired to live my dreams. At
the age of forty-four, I had just gone through a very traumatic experience in love and felt this was a way to heal
my lost soul. This book will certainly change my future, as it is powerful, personal and passionate.
I do
write from the heart and this is certainly a good way of expressing my most inner thoughts.
Whoever you are, wherever you live, I am
sure even the little thoughts I leave within the chapters will open your mind and even answer some questions you may have wondered all of your life.
When reading this, keep your thoughts clear and see the words for
what they are: REAL!
“Be inspired and live your dreams and all will come true.”

There is no light at the end of the tunnel until you make it happen. When
“A Beginning, An Ending” was written, I was so lost in despair, self destructive, and in pain, the words I wrote
were and will forever be embedded in black and white. “Chaos is the continuation of that story, struggling with pain
and utter broken heart, it is apparent now it took a lot of courage and self development to bring me back to normal.
The characters in my
book, although have no real names attached to them, I assure you are real, very real in my life, however, when the words came
out I was living a nightmare and have learned much from speaking out.
I want to share with everyone, including Mr.BigShot,
the main character of this edition, my words, my thoughts, my feelings are just that. This experience has shown me dreams,
new hope and my reason for remembering my self-worth. I can continue to grow and hope that someday I will touch someone’s
heart or even help another lost soul.

My blog has been a big part of my life these past 2 years and this book is a
part of the journals I kept.
When I wrote this book, I was very hurt and in pain over the love relationship of my life but have
grown through this struggle. I always felt victimized by defeat, lies, and negative thoughts and shared
all this on my site.
Recently, I have made changes to turn those negatives into positives and that
is why I decided to write this book. I wanted to share with the world special moments, inspirational words and continue to
believe that I can make a difference. The book will be beside me every day as a reminder of how I admitted my humanity and
survived through it all. Today, I continue to blog but with a different outlook on life. I learn everyday
what types of people can be good for growth and even the negative people can send a message from which
you can learn. I want to bring light and hope to those who have none but most of all share this journey with the world.

'Earth's New Beginning' - This new novel by Morrisburg resident,
John Gleed,
will be available shortly as a paperback from Aventine Press. It is available now as an electronic book (ebook) on Amazon
Kindle, Chapters/Indigo Kobo, Apple iBooks, Barnes & Noble Nook, Sony eReader and more.
The story gives an account of how the human race came to an extraordinarily rapid
and unexpected near-extinction early in the twenty-first century. No thermonuclear or biological war, pollution catastrophe,
or any kind of human created disaster played a part in this downfall of modern man. A highly infectious contagion kills most
of the Earth's population in less than three months. The Sleeping Death Contagion (SDC) virus causes the death of nearly every
infected victim as they sleep, in less than four days. The nature of SDC was such that it could have resulted in the
extinction of the human race. The high level of infectivity and the short time period to fatality had catastrophic results.
Only a rare and random genetic immunity to the fatal effects of the virus prevented the total extinction. However, it leaves less than one in a hundred thousand survivors (0.001 %) – less than three
thousand in North America.
The story follows the experiences of four different survivors in Canada (in the Morrisburg area), England, Kenya
and the United States through the rapid spreading of the infection around the world. It then follows their individual survival
stories for the first nine months after the disease strikes.

'Constable Davey - A Future Lost' - In April 2010, Cornwall
Police Chief Dan Parkinson asked Racine to begin digging up some local police history with the goal of creating a coffee table
book highlighting the 200-plus years of policing in Cornwall.
While researching the story of Special Constable John Robert Davey, a Cornwall leather and harness
maker who gave his life in the line of duty on September 6, 1892 during his first shift as a Cornwall police officer, Thom
was amazed that no one, including himself at the police station was aware of the story
of Constable Davey – his legacy had been lost in the passage of time. Before long, Thom's effort to research more details
took on a life of its own.
Thom set out to locate Davey's ancestors in the U.S.,
first to locate Davey's picture and then to invite them to a memorial celebration and they were in attendance in September
2011, when a new tombstone for Constable Davey was unveiled and dedicated during a touching ceremony at St. Columban’s
Cemetery. Later that day, the section of Ninth Street between Pitt and Sydney Streets where Constable Davey was killed was
officially dedicated as John Robert Davey Memorial Way.
During
this process which took 20 months, Thom would refine his notes to share Davey’s story with others. The end result is
Constable Davey – A Future Lost, a 226-page book which takes the reader through the horrific events of Sept.6, 1892,
when Constable Davey's life was tragically cut short. The book tells the story of Davey's family, his three sons and three
of his brothers as they make their lives in Cornwall, Buffalo and South Texas during the turn of the century (circa 1900).
The book also delves into other key players on that fateful day and provides a grisly account of the killer’s execution.
Told with page turning style, Thom provides insight on the amazing coincidences that he uncovered during his research for
the book.

'Stained Glass' - I have slept in old barns in
the dark of the countryside. I've stayed up all night in the glow of city lights.
The story 'Stained Glass' was inspiried by a somewhat mishmash radical past. After several years of heavy drifting,
with much of nothing to my name but a ratty old toothbrush that I kept hiden inside an old red guitar, these tales, that you're
about to read, were stamped in my mind during some of the most interesting years of my life. This novel came from all
angles of North America. I was tramping all over the countryside trying to make sense of anything. For years,
my video camera was my best friend. I talked to it about everything. Together we were extremely fascinated in
the people, creatures and the places outside my circle of knowledge. This book is a farfetched version of my diary.
