"My Island in the Sun" by Dean C Swift -
I finished reading "My Island in the Sun" with tears in my eyes. Some for the humour and some
were from going back into my own memories. No, I have never built a boat, but I did spend a year on a sailing boat with
a captain I would end up marrying. After all, I figured, if you can live for a year in such close quarters, and still
like each other, marriage would be a cinch.
After that wonderful, scary, adventurous year, I returned to Toronto. It was two years after
that, that I was married - on a boat - off the Island of Nevis in the Caribbean. The captain had sold his mono hull
boat by this time and our dream was to finish a barely started catamaran. That in itself is a story but as a result,
I understand epoxy, fibreglass, hardbacks, sanding, dust everywhere, brass screws (and the horrific price they cost), laminating
wood and even trips to Alec Robertson up near Apple Hill.
I laughed at Murphy`s Law as it applies to sailing boats. I cried at the memories of sea sickness,
fear, and the absolute thrill of sailing. I commiserated (in thought) of Linda`s first encounter with a storm and those
gigantic waves. Been there, done that!
But even a non-sailor will appreciate the dedication to a dream... something most of us don`t get the
opportunity to have in our far too short lives. It is an inspiration to go find that dream... and act on it. I
could read this book many times and still find myself thrilled at the pure joy Dean finds in his dream.

'The Perfect Mix' - Dear Mr. Swift,
After taking the time to thoroughly read 'The Perfect Mix' I found myself really wanting to praise it.
I don't read a lot of fiction but your book was definitely the exception.
What with writing style, variety and down to earth subjects, I found each story gripped and held my interest to
the end.
You did a great job organizing and putting together a simple yet complex mixture of authors which made the book
a page turner.
There was one particular story however that stood out as my favorite. 'Satan's Disciple', stimulating plot line,
crisp chacterization and exciting setting kept me riveted.
Thank you for putting such a thought provoking, uncomplicated, practical Canadian book together. I
hope it continues to sell for some time to come.
